Well, if you have TMJ, which is Temporomandibular Joint, well, it’s actually TMD, Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, you’re having pain in the joints from typically you’re clenching and grinding while you’re sleeping. If you’ve had a stressful day, you think about and dream about all those things that went wrong and you take it out on your teeth, you’ll clench and grind. It also pushes and irritates the joints by doing that. Oral surgeon to have surgery to correct the joint popping or locking, they would send you to your dentist and say, “First thing is try a night guard.” Night guards typically take care of most of those problems.
I am a clencher. I am a grinder. If I’ve had a stressful day and something didn’t go right and I’m worrying about it, I clench and grind.
