There’s different ways of doing porcelain veneers. There is a no-prep veneer that you take an impression of the patient’s teeth as they are, and then they make a porcelain piece that fits on there, and it’s very thin. You’ll get the results you want, but they won’t last. They’re just too thin, the material’s too weak. I can do those. If you don’t mind replacing them in six or seven years, then yeah, that’s a way of going.
I typically, when I’m prepping for veneers, I’ll take a little off the front of the tooth and a little around the sides. I don’t go around on the back of the tooth. That would be a crown, but take enough off to have a little bit of thickness to the veneer. Those, I have those in patient’s mouths that I did 25, 28 years ago, and they’re still there. Have enough thickness that they’re a lot stronger. Aesthetically, you can change the tooth and make it look better by doing that. You don’t have to take a lot off, but just a millimeter or two…not two, a millimeter. And that’s enough to make something that could be there most of your life, if not all of it. But it will change your life. If you are not happy with the way your teeth look now, I can improve them drastically.
