Only go whenever you’re hurting. There’s a lot of things that can happen in the mouth that you won’t know about that I can catch way early. A cavity doesn’t typically hurt until it’s too late. Once it starts hurting, it’s in the nerve of the tooth, and then it’s either doing a root canal on it or doing an extraction. And there’s no replacement for that tooth. I mean, you can put partials in and dentures in, but dentures are a totally different world. You don’t want dentures if any way possible.
When we see you regularly, the mouth affects your whole body. The bacteria that’s in your mouth gets into your bloodstream. It can affect your heart. It can affect your brain. It causes heart attacks. People with periodontal disease have a 300% higher risk for heart attacks and stroke. Tartar that accumulates on your teeth, that the hygienist cleans off, irritates that gum and makes it bleed. And if that bacteria gets into that bloodstream and that plaque gets in that bloodstream, it will clog up the little arteries, little veins on your heart, and then you have a heart attack. Or if it affects, clumps up the vessels on your brain, then you can have stroke. So it’s not just your mouth. It’s not just having teeth that you can smile and chew with. It’s your whole life. So it’s the cheapest money people can spend are those cleanings every six months. That cleaning and checkup, those are the patients that spend the least amount of money with me.
