Dentures are a last resort. If you can’t at least do a partial or you’ve got some, if you’ve got a few teeth that you can put a clasp or something to grab onto, you’ll have a much more comfortable fit with that. If you do have a denture, if there’s any way you can do some implants, even the mini implants, which I do, we place four lower implants and then the denture snaps onto them, that stays in place. At the top, you have to use six on the top because it’s a softer bone. So six implants on top, four on the bottom, and you can get rid of, with your denture, you can get rid of the part that goes in the roof of your mouth, the part that gags you, it just fits on the ridge. You can bite into stuff, you can, it’s just a lot more comfortable.
The full size implants, you can do four, the full size upper four on the lower, and you can have a screw-in retained denture where it’s basically like having teeth again. You don’t remove them, they’re in there and then every year or two I take them out to clean the implant and then screw them back in, that’s about it. But that’s the way of getting teeth whenever you’ve lost all your teeth.
